1. Overview
DecibelView is a mobile app that visualizes ambient noise levels using your device’s microphone. We design the app to collect only the minimum information needed for it to function and to respect your privacy at every step.
2. Data we collect
Within the app, we store the following information on your device:
- Approximate decibel readings you choose to save
- Optional free‑text notes you type for a reading (e.g., “office desk”, “bus stop”)
- Timestamps indicating when a reading was saved
We do not collect or store accounts, email addresses, contacts, photos, files, or precise GPS location.
3. Microphone access
The app uses your device microphone solely to estimate ambient noise levels in decibels. Microphone audio is processed to compute levels and is not recorded or sent to any server by DecibelView.
4. Local storage
Saved readings, notes, and timestamps are stored locally on your device using the platform’s storage mechanisms. This data is not synced to our servers.
5. Advertising
DecibelView shows banner and interstitial advertisements using Google AdMob. Google may collect certain information to serve and measure ads, such as:
- Advertising identifiers and basic device information
- Anonymized IP address
- Approximate region (for example, country or general area) inferred from network information
- App usage data related to ad delivery
DecibelView does not access or send precise GPS location to AdMob. For more details, please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy.
6. Children’s privacy
DecibelView is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can assist you.
7. Your choices
- You can clear all saved readings from within the app (Settings → Clear data).
- You can disable microphone permission in your device settings, which turns off live noise measurement.
- You can adjust ad personalization settings in your device and Google account preferences.

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” above and may also update the in‑app policy text.
